GSX Partners with USOLN to Enhance CUSP Certification

Global Skills X-Change (GSX), a veteran-owned leader specializing in helping associations, corporations, and government institutions build resilient workforces through innovative credentialing and learning solutions, is proud to announce its partnership with the Utility Safety Ops Leadership Network (USOLN) to refine and improve the Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) certification program. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in enhancing the safety credentials offered to professionals within the utility industry.

The CUSP certification is the only program that provides safety credentials specifically tailored to utilities, related contractors, and communication providers. Developed by USOLN, the CUSP credential is recognized industry-wide and offers professional recognition to utility safety professionals. It gives employers confidence that CUSP-certified individuals possess the comprehensive knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to excel in the utility work environment.

GSX’s role in this partnership is to refresh the base and endorsement exams for the CUSP program. By aligning the content with universal certification development best practices, GSX aims to create a program that is rigorous, comprehensive, and psychometrically sound. The ultimate goal of this initiative is to achieve National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accreditation within the next several years, further solidifying the CUSP program as a benchmark of excellence in utility safety certification.

Key Benefits of the Collaboration

This collaborative effort will result in numerous benefits to the USOLN membership, including:

  • Enhanced Certification Process: GSX will revamp the CUSP exams. Ensuring a rigorous and comprehensive assessment aligned with the highest standards in psychometrics.
  • Psychometrically Sound Program: The refreshed CUSP certification will be built on universal best practices, enhancing its validity and reliability.
  • Increased Industry Recognition: The improved CUSP credential will continue to be recognized across the utility industry. Therefore, offering professionals industry-wide acknowledgment of their expertise.
  • Professional Growth Opportunities: The enhanced certification process will lead to greater career advancement opportunities for CUSP-certified professionals.
  • Access to Expertise: CUSP credential holders will gain access to a growing community of industry experts and peers. Thus, facilitating ongoing professional development and networking.

“We are thrilled to partner with USOLN in this critical endeavor,” said Dave Wilcox, President and CEO of GSX. “By improving the CUSP certification process, we are contributing to the safety and success of the utility industry, while  ensuring the CUSP credential continues to represent the gold standard in utility safety.”

“Our collaboration with GSX is important to building the integrity and continuity of the CUSP certification program through psychometric and certification process best practices,” said Shawn Talbot, CUSP Program Director. “This partnership ensures that the certification remains at the forefront of safety standards in the utility industry.”

“GSX remains dedicated to building resilient workforces and advancing the safety and success of professionals in various industries, said Kevin Edwards, SVP and Head of Marketing and Communications at GSX. “This collaboration with USOLN is a testament to GSX’s commitment to excellence in workforce development and certification.”

Together, GSX and USOLN are setting the standard in utility safety certification, ensuring that professionals in the industry are equipped with the skills and knowledge to lead in safety and operational excellence.
